Question Fuel smell in oil

I did a 2500 mile oil change, and i cut open the filter afterwards. After removing the filter media. Seeing the normal amount of metal flakes, i also noticed it had a heavy smell of fuel. Is that normal for a rotary engine? It has 60k on the rebuilt engine. It has stock internals, and its an NA.

You will get weird looks if you try to dump the oil at those parts stores. All you need to say is it's rotary engine oil : )

I always dump it at a local jiffy lube and they have never said anything. Sometimes they are wondering why it looks so clean.
