Fuel Pump Wiring Questions

88 SE with the stock fuel pump (for now).

I am running a new power wire to the fuel pump. I jumped the fuel pump relay to cause the stock power wire to be live when the ignition is on to check the pump (the car has been sitting for months awaiting a new motor). The pump is not working.

I seem to be getting 12V all the way to the pump itself. The interesting thing is that I am getting only .25v at the pump connectors on the outside of the tank. I pulled the pump assembly out and there is about 2k ohms resistance accross the power line from the top to the bottom of the gas tank cover assembly. I didn't try to run the pump with it out of the tank because I was concerned about having gas spraying everywhere .

It looks as if the connectors on the gas tank cover cannot be repaced - like the wires from the R-03 connector (the one on the left rear strut tower) to the underside of the cover assembly are permanently fixed. I checked the ground all of the way to the pump itself and it is good.

Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is? I'd really appreciate any help.

Rob

is that .25v across the 2 pump wires? or are you grounding somewhere else. if you are getting 12v at the wire, and only .25 across the pump it sounds like a bad ground, I'd try to reground the pump.

edit: are you sure you are measurring the right wires at the connector? cause 2 of them are for the sending unit. that would not have 12v. should be 4 there. the 2 thicker wires are for the pump.

Thanks for the info, I should have written it more clearly, let me try again - It is 12v from the power wire at the connector on the strut tower to a chassis ground and it is .25v on the same wire on the gas tank side of the sending unit cover to the same chassis ground. It seems as if the problem is in the connection through the sending unit cover.
