fuel pump taking a shi+

I have an 86 with a complete turbo drivetrain swap and an 88 turbo II.

When I got the 86 it would run fine then start bucking like it was running out of gas and hardly ran. My 88 is undergoing some "slight modifications" so I figured I would try walbro 255 out of it. BTW both had walbro 255s. Well after changing the fuel pump out the car ran fine.

The 88 used to run rough every once in a while with the fuel pump I switched into the 86 and I could never figure out why, but i did notice my AFRs would lean way out when it did it.

Today the 86 with the fuel pump out of the 88 was acting like the 88 used too. The way I see it the common denominator is the fuel pump.

I think I'm just going to go ahead and order another fuel pump, what do you think.

Also if I rev the bag out of it it doesnt stumble, it also doesn't stumble under hard acceleration, or rpms below 3000 ( and no this isn't the 3800 rpm bs).

Bosch 044 installed inline, out of tank will solve the problem.

Can also be installed in-tank

Or you can just buy another new walbro.

yeah, i just ordered up another 255, just to keep it a simple swap rather than messing with an 044.

Although I do have an 044 for my 88 and it makes the 255 look like a wimp.

Anyway I hope this fixes the problem, these cars are great, until there is a problem.

I replaced the fuel pump and it didn't fix the problem. Go figure.

So today the problem got really bad and the engine kept cutting out.

I decided for actually do some diagnotics.

I found my alternator was only putting out 12.3 volts at idle so I replaced that, but that didn't fix it. Found a couple flat spots on my TPS and replaced that but that still didn't fix it.

finally in the end I pulled the plugs to find them looking like crap and the center electrodes were all domed out rather than flat and one of them, the insulator around the center electrode on the inside of the plug was cracked and floating around in the plug (thank god it didn't fall into the engine, even if it got out of there ok it probably would have destroyed the turbo)

so moral of the story is that if your car is running like ****, check the spark plugs alternator and TPS before you buy a $100 fuel pump.
