Fuel Pump Screws Suck.
So I am trying to install this:
My Walbro 255.
Of course I could not get the damn plate open all night. I tried vise grips, screwdrivers, hammers and screwdrivers, pliers, WD-40, more ****. This is where I am:
As you can see I got 2 off and replaced them with bolts. But the rest are just stripping. Is there any way I can get these damn things off or should I just take it to a mechanic and tell him to deal with it.
I hate Mazda at the moment. Screws. What a STUPID ******* design.

the only way i got it off was soaking in wd4o then pinching down on them as tight and SQUARELY as posible with a small pair of vice grips and then twist them off. they arent very big, so once you break the initial bond of the rust, they come right out.

on the 3 cars ive changed teh fuel pump i jsut used a big screwdriver adn a hammer. you get screwdriver on and hit it with the hammer then twist. most of the time it breaks it loose. and when they strip ive used vice grips and twisted out.

get a #40 drill bit, and an easy-out from the auto parts store (the right sized one for the drill bit), drill a hole in the center of the screw head, insert the easy-out, put a small crescent wrench or vise-grips on the easy-out, and turn it out...Please be careful with any fuel fumes if using an electric drill...

I would have suggested using a dremel and cutting a slit in it for you to use a flathead but then.... fuel is in the area so thats kinda scary.
I would try and clean the area making sure no fuel is around the screws then dremel. On second thought, drain the fuel and then dremel.
