that is the fuel pump filter, looks pretty clean to me, you can run some water through it if you want to clean it a bit. I'm not sure what this post is about though If you are looking for the "fuel filter" it's not the right one. it's in the bottom corner of the right fender and firewall. that is the one your normaly change.

Yes it goes below the fuel pump. I dont know where you got that, but the one that came with my walbro was like 1/2 that size. It goes on the bottom of the fuel pump, so if you have the fuel pump out its a cinch.

YEah.. and taking the pump out is a piece of cake! Pull up your rear hatch carpet. You'll see a metal plate with a blue cable running into it on the left side. Unscrew it (4 screws). This exposes the top of the fuel tank.

You'll want to unclamp the two hoses on the pump, but remember which is which!

There are..maybe 10 little-*** screws holding the pump in. They're old, corroded, and very soft. EXTREMELY easy to strip the head. Do what I did: Take a ratchet, get an extention, and get a phillips screwdriver socket. Put the socket in the screw, and BANG on the extention with a hammer a few times, to really get the head in, and maybe loosen the screw up. Now, put the ratchet on, push down, and try to unscrew it. I stripped zero like this, but 4 using a screwdriver normally.

The pump sorta just pulls straight up and out. Be careful, there fuel level device is kinda awkward to get out and back in. At the bottom, there's a black...bushing-type thing. You'll want to pull the pump out of the bracket..the bushing will slip and come off. Now, it's really obvious how to take the old filter off and put the new one on. Snap the pump back in with the bushing, put it back in, screw it in, re-connect hoses and wires.. all-done!
