Fuel mileage question

I have checked these numbers many times and i keep coming up with the same answer...

I get about 320km / ~55L which keeps working out to 13.6 mpg which is a far cry from the 17 city 24 highway. Granted i have a bit (but just a bit) of a heavy foot.

It has 118,xxx kms

my guess is it could need a new 02 sensor, but if anyone else has some advice it would be appreciated

Do a basic tune up and check your air pressure. If you're kicking in the secondaries (3800 rpm) all the time you're going to use more gas even though I wouldn't call that a heavy foot. You can get close to that kind of gas mileage if you shift all the time before 3800... but what fun is that?

when my car was stock, and being very heavy footed I got about 16 average with 80% city driving, slightly over 20 avg when doing 80% highway. I would say you are in need of a tuneup.

I get about the advertised figures. I get 18 or so with mixed leaning towards city (and lots of heavy footed driving on the highway) and 25+ when just cruising on the highway. I've gotten as high as 28 with almost solid highway driving.
For the record, the O2 sensor is near useless on our cars. It doesn't do anything unless you are in open loop, which is basically only on the highway and not accelerating. Even then it doesn't do a whole lot. At 40 bucks for the bosch replacement, its a good investment, just not strictly required.

Ok what would you guys all include on a tune up?

this would be my list...

change oil and filter
change tranny and diff oil
check/change spark plugs
flush coolant

anything else??

My battery is crap so i'll probly buy a new one, as well i might get a new rad cap and thermostat since last summer i was having some overheating issues.

Depending on what version you have (N/A TII) you might be able to aford leaning out the A/F But that depends on what you have. The normal tune up stuff is good, might also want to check on your wheels. Under pressurized wheels eat gas like none other. But most people check that during normal tune up stuff.

How old are your spark plug wires? Also a new or cleaned air filter.

I have no idea how old my wires are, probably original, and as far as air filter is concerned it was cleaned before storage.

Another Q...what psi/(kg/cm^2) rad cap should i get?
