Fuel line question

What ill effects could/would occure if I dind't use fuel injection rated hose for my lines running from the fuel rails/fpr to the filter and firewall pipe? I bought some hose already and don't want to have to buy the expensive **** if I don't have to. If I do I might as well dress it up with braided stainless since it's not much more. Thanks

Hmm, ummm, let's see ...

Gas leaks and engine fire.

Yup, I think that would qualify as "ill effect".

Spend the extra $4/ft and get the proper hose.

Low pressure hose will eventually split at the clamps, spraying high pressure fuel all over a hot engine. Fuel injection hose is about what, $5-$8 per foot?

yeah that's kinda what I was afraid of...Guess I jumped the gun on buying my materials before I knew what I needed. But yeah it's about 5 bucks a foot...that **** adds up when you need about 4-6 ft. Well, guess I'm headed back to the parts store. I think I saw some stainless **** online for 8/ft...though that's probably without all the hardware. Anyway thanks again
