fuel injector service questions

Hey all! Sorry, I know this has been brought up before but I can't find it through any searching.
I know I want to get my fuel injectors serviced, but I really don't know a whole lot about the procedure.
For instance I have heard a lot of different terminology
such getting them "blue printed" and/or balanced. Are these the same things? Are there more things that you can have done to repair/renew your old ones?
Also how difficult would you guys say removing them is?
I have a 10th ae. I have done tranny swaps and clutches before so I feel pretty comfortable pulling these cars apart.
Also, I know of RC engineering, but, I heard someone mention of these guys http://www.cruzinperformance.com/fuelinj.html
I think thier service is a lot cheaper but does anyone know how good they are?

Last thing, how long does the whole mail/project thing take? I.e. how long will my car be down?
And any tips to make the job easier would be grealy appreciated!!
Thanx to all in advance!

Alot of the questions can be answered right on the info page for the site you listed. how long it takes depends on how back logged they are. If your injectors get there and sit on the shelf for a week, then of course it will take longer than if they got to work on the injectors the day they showed up. Give them a call and check out there web page.

As far as removal, its not difficult. Got to depressurize the fuel system, remove the secondary rail and the injectors, then remove the upper intake so you can get to the primary rail and injectors. Be sure you label all vacuum hoses and electrical plugs so 2 weeks later you will know where everything goes.

relatively simple uninstall/install on injectors. be prepared to purchase new injector gromits. I too have a 10th ae and when I did my injectors, those old gromits were like rocks. You may also need new o-rings for the injectors fitting to the fuel rails. And when you pull off the upper intake manifold - there's a coolant hose in the back attaching the manifold to the block towards the firewall.. Have fun, if that's the original hose, it will be a doozie! After reassembly, beware of vac leaks from now old and nasty gaskets. And that's all I got for now.

thanx! And...

So, I also looked at this other place called... marren I think... They look great so maybe i'll try them... But... You are saying I should order new gaskets then in advance? Replace those puppies while I am there?
Which ones? Sounds like a good idea... Also, whats the deal with the uhhh... Fuel pulsation dampener... Some kind of fiery death in store for me if I dont fix that?

The stuff to fix while you're in there if you're a perfectionist...
1) replace all upper engine area fuel hose with HI-PRESSURE fuel injection hose, available at your friendly auto parts store
2) that PD you were talking about, which will also need 2 different crush washers, available at Mazdatrix or your local friendly Mazda dealer
3) new o-ring for the fuel pressure regulator, just in case you decide to pull it off the rail (to get it out of the way), same size as the...
4) 4 new o-rings for the injectors (+1 for #3 above)
5) 4 new lower grommets for the injectors (the upper grommets can also be changed if you wish, but I didn't find it necessary)
6) new oil metering vac lines, since the old ones will crack to dust while you're pushing them out of the way (now is also a good time to go premix if you so desire, then all that metering crap can be removed-but that's another topic)
7) new 3.5mm vac lines, if you so desire (some will probably crack on you, so plan ahead)
8) upper intake manifold-to-lower intake manifold gasket (it may or may not come apart in one piece, better just to have one in case
9) Hmmm, what else, guys?

Hey thanx! This is great... Yeah for the record I am an amateur perfectionist. I always try to do things the most patient way! :P My goal is to make the car brand new as of '88! New car smell and everything!
I have not ventured into this area but once before and that was on an N/A... So this will be a bit of an adventure! I am looking forward to especially with the support of this forum!
Anyway, thanks much and if you guys can think of anything else!
