Question fuel injector resistors - location, watt and wire??

Ok i know that i have to place 10 Ohm resistors inline with the low imp. injector i am going to be installing.

4 of 850cc from RC Engineering top feed low imp.

I have seen various posts about the resistors used and have also searched.

there are the Radio Shack type 10Ohm 10 Watt. and others 20Watt

1. Which should i use 10 Watt or 20 Watt @ 10Ohms and why ?

Also the location ...

2. If using the Radio Shack Resistors i would understand having them by the ECU.
but if you get the 1 with the Alu. heat sink around them would it be ok to have them in the engine bay ? 2 to 4 inches from the injector?

3. Which wire??
Some have said that you can place it on any wire. Then i read that you have to place the resistor on the powered wire for which you have to test for with a multi-meter.

I used the 10 Ohm 10 watt in the engine bay with no problems for over a year in Florida.

I used the 89 Type 10Ohm axial wirewound resistors on my GSL-SE. Looking at the Digikey catalog pages 1239 and 1240. the Ohmite brand WFH series resistors look like a possible candidate. Personally I'd probably use those when I throw a Megasquirt at my newly acquired N/A series 4.

I used 10 watt, 10 ohm. They have plenty of power handling to make the ohmic match.

Also the location ...
I put mine in the engine bay at first, but I started experiencing random injector failure, so I moved them to the ECU area (which is actually an easier place to install them). Its common electrical theory that resistance changes with heat, and those injectors have an operating range of -55°C to 70°C. Those temps are easily exceeded in an FC engine bay.

I would go with no on this one, but I have no concrete evidence that it wont work, just a feeling that the heat sink would get soaked pretty quickly. If you try it and it is successful, please let us know!

Does not matter.

10W is fine. Mount them at the ECU as they are not designed for the environment of the engine bay.

For mounting on the ECU I prefer to use the resistors in the finned aluminium case. They then screw to the top of the ECU case and look bitchin'.

You guys happen to know where to find an ECU diagram with all the pins labelled?

mine are temporary, but i'm using the 10ohm 10w radio shack right next to the inectors... high end is fine, but then again they haven't been through a virginia summer.

thinking about putting this thermocouple i have there and reading the temps to see what they're going through, they are in a little ceramic housing so they're insulated as well.

forgot to mention i'm only running low impedance with resistors on the secondaries... you may as well just put it at the ecu rather than take the UIM off.

ok i got the 10Ohm 10W ones with the heat sinks.

they are like half the size of the radio shack ones.

got mien off of ebay. $5 each and quick shipping

Just some FYI but i purchased some of the 10 ohm 10 watt "heat" protected/fireproof resistors from radio shack. They are HUGE but the operating temp range is from -55 degrees C to +275 degrees C!!!

I installed them in the engine bay since I removed everything before actually checking my Venom injectors. End result: New injectors work great and absolutely no injector failure EVEN when engine was running a little warm.

Thought I would update this post.
