Fuel IGNITING in turbo??

hey guys. i just got done washing my car. I realised it was running right lately, i think ive narrowed it down to my strieght pipe that i put on lately if anyone can back me up on that. Anyways, i was pulling out of the car wash and gave it some some juice. All it did was bog, my boost went up 2 13-14psi and it sounded like a pulsing torch accomapannied by the sound of my engine. Whenever i boost what would normally be above 5 psi on the gas pedal, it bogs, gets REAL loud, and it does the same thing. Is it really running that rich? my A/F guage reads full rich at idle. i got out and my turbo was also glowing medium orange as well. It hasnt glowed since it got cold. ive wanting to get a some sort of fuel management system (Safc, pFcon etc...) but i didnt think i needed one immediately because it was running fine up until today(even more specific, after washing my car) would this most likely solve my problem? i also have a new fuel pump but im afraid that it will run the car too rich. id appreciate any help you have to offer. Thanks -alex

Glowing turbo == Bad.

Check exhaust for restrictions and hope it's something easy. Maybe your timing is off? dunno.

i have no cats. I used to have a RB turbo back and my A/F guage read it was slightly rich. After i got my strieght pipe (3" if it matters) my A/F guage read full rich. Is it possible one of my plugs are not firing and its just dumping fuel into my turbo? thanks -alex

I would seriously consider buying some sort of piggy back or if you have the money stand alone computer. My turbo glows red sometimes as well, because I'm running so rich, and the best way to fix it is to lean it out, but I would leave that to a proffessional. I would also consider buying new plugs, cause your current ones are probably going to get fouled quickly if it's running that rich. Hope that helps.

Thats easily Identifible by using a cheapy Spark tester. You place It at the end of the boot than ground It. Essentially, It's a Spark Plug with a mounting bracket. You would do this If you wanted to question the Integrity of the Coil Packs, after assuming the Spark Plugs are In good shape.

Aaron and I used It on my FC last weekend to dermaine that my Trailing Coil Packs were In fact firing. (outside matter stemming from bs).

i appreciate all the help you guys are providing. I did pull my plugs out a couple of days ago, they werent too bad, but that was a COUPLE of days ago. Thanks very much for the help. Ive been thinking of a PFCON or an Apexi Safc2. Does any one have any expeirence with these? which would you recommend? Would tuning the SAFC be rather hard or pretty easy? i understand that the Pfcon is a plugnplay dont have to worry about it system. thanks -alex

My car did the same thing and nobody could figure it out. Timing was good, etc, etc. I'm rebuilding mine because of a coolant seal and noticed that one of the apex seals was completely stuck in the rotor. I'm wondering if that could've maybe been the problem?

I would lean towards a timing problem. Sounds like something is not firing. Check timing, and verify with a spark tester. Also, do you have exhaust leaks between the turbo and manifold? It will cuase this behaviour.

As for the suggestion to lean it out: aftermarket parts should NOT be used to compensate for a car that does not run properly.

see this all started happening after i got done washing my car. and it only does this past about 3-4 psi of boost. I drove it to the do it urself place and it was fine, after i finished washing it, it started doing it. It was like 23 degrees here yesterday. -alex P.S. i dont know if my sig is showing up but in case it isnt this is what i have: Full 3inch streight pipe, intake, FCD, Greddy boost controller (if that matters), koyo radiator.

If it started after you washed the car, then check all electrical connections, especially around the leading coil and TPS.
