fuel filter
can you use fuel filters interchangable from different cars. No one has one for me rx7 but one kragen and they want $32 for it. I can get a ford fuel filter with the long ends so i have plenty of room to clamp the hoses down for $7. It wont affect anything will it?
$22 at mazdaformance at the top of this page last I checked.
Heck my local Napa auto parts has them for $20 for some off brand.
Stick with Mazda filters for fuel and oil

Mazda for oil? I've been using K&N. It's a little more expensive, but I've heard only good things about them. I guess the OEM filters are just as good, but they are much harder to get. My local Mazda is only open during normal working hours and that just does not go with my scedule. Advanced auto parts is open until 9, and that seems to work for me.
I'm curious why you are using OEM oil filters Mark?
Oh and spend the extra cash and get the "real" fuel filter. It will have the proper mounts and hose sizes along with the proper filtering capabilities. The filter must also be for a fuel injected car or it will probably explode under the higher pressures.

Personally I just stick with the Mazda OEM filter ($33), but http://www.rx7.com offers some cheaper aftermarket filters for $20 (I believe it's still 20).

Yes, I recommend using a OEM Fuel Filter. Or at least get an aftermarket one that is designed for your car. Why risk it...
As for oil filters I stick with OEM, K&N, or Mobil 1. I find these to be the best.

The oil filters (although small comparied to most aftermarket filters) do a great job filtering, have glued edges (rather than the tied or gasketed filter pleats found on the cheaper filters) and a high number of pleats. As a plus, they work as Mazda figured they would. Many of the aftermarket filters that "fit" the FC/FD/Miata don't have the same release valve pressure or the steel perfed frame inner support.
Besides I get them for $5 or the standard US built oil filter for $4. And my Mazda dealer who is open on weekdays and saturday usually gives me a flat 15% off anything.
Easier to get and a better filter than most aftermarket is why I use them.

My Mazda dealer is opened on Saturdays but those lazy bastards don't open the parts department. You can buy a car on saturday, but you sure can't work on it. I bet thier parts department would double thier profits if they just opened up on the weekends. When do most people work on their car? The weekend.
Maybe I'll look into using the OEM filter per your recommendation. I only change oil 4 times a year anyhow.
And do you have any idea how often the fuel filter would need to be changed when running premix?
