fuel filter

fuel filter

can you use fuel filters interchangable from different cars. No one has one for me rx7 but one kragen and they want $32 for it. I can get a ford fuel filter with the long ends so i have plenty of room to clamp the hoses down for $7. It wont affect anything will it?

Sorry i dont know. But i think i would just stick with the rx7 filter...

$22 at mazdaformance at the top of this page last I checked.

Heck my local Napa auto parts has them for $20 for some off brand.

Stick with Mazda filters for fuel and oil

K&N makes a good oil filter, but like you said: "it's expensive". During the last oil change on my 90 GXL, I used a K&N oil filter. BTW, first time I've used one of them. It me $10 at a local autoparts chain. The K&N must be a very low restriction filter because my oil pressure seems a little higher with it on. I usually don't use aftermarket filters, but I'd probably use a K&N again. I usually use the Mazda oil filter. I buy them by the 6-pack. They ususally run me about $4 each.

Personally I just stick with the Mazda OEM filter ($33), but http://www.rx7.com offers some cheaper aftermarket filters for $20 (I believe it's still 20).

Yes, I recommend using a OEM Fuel Filter. Or at least get an aftermarket one that is designed for your car. Why risk it...

As for oil filters I stick with OEM, K&N, or Mobil 1. I find these to be the best.

That is for the fuel filter... not the oil filter...

I actually like the Japanese made OEM Mazda oil filters the best, with the Mobil One and K&N as second and third.

The oil filters (although small comparied to most aftermarket filters) do a great job filtering, have glued edges (rather than the tied or gasketed filter pleats found on the cheaper filters) and a high number of pleats. As a plus, they work as Mazda figured they would. Many of the aftermarket filters that "fit" the FC/FD/Miata don't have the same release valve pressure or the steel perfed frame inner support.

Besides I get them for $5 or the standard US built oil filter for $4. And my Mazda dealer who is open on weekdays and saturday usually gives me a flat 15% off anything.

Easier to get and a better filter than most aftermarket is why I use them.

My Mazda dealer is opened on Saturdays but those lazy bastards don't open the parts department. You can buy a car on saturday, but you sure can't work on it. I bet thier parts department would double thier profits if they just opened up on the weekends. When do most people work on their car? The weekend.

Maybe I'll look into using the OEM filter per your recommendation. I only change oil 4 times a year anyhow.

And do you have any idea how often the fuel filter would need to be changed when running premix?

yes u can use it but i may affect your fuel pressure a little. i got a fuel filter for mine at adavence for $16

I use the mobil one oil filter without any variation, and I changed my fuel filter a while back, got one from napa, dunno what it was

Well I change my fuel filters probably too often, I do it every January, but I wouldn't think that the pre-mix would change the normal intervals at all unless the pre-mix was a crappy blend.
