Why would it be bad? It would definately be helpful for unflooding or preventing flooding to begin with (you can flood the car if you cold start it and shut it off almost right away. for example if you want to move it out of the driveway or something). Also, a fuel cutoff makes a nice anti-theft device.

Yes, a fuel cut switch can be bad. If it gets hit while under boost, the fuel pressure will drop gradually (too slowly to just cut fuel), leaning things out, and passing you right through the detonation danger zone before leaning out enough to kill the engine.

I have a NA, but I have inadvertently hit my cut switch. NAs don't really care, they won't ping, or if they do it's not hard enough to break things (don't take my word for it though).

However, it's very disconcerting to go down a hill, and hit the gas at the bottom and have *nothing* - especially in the left lane of a 3 lane highway. THEN I realized that I had set the CD changer control on the fuel cut switch. Not fun.

Does anyone 'shut their car down' using the switch?

I've done it several times to help 'clear the fuel' out for the next start, but I'm still a bit skeptical.

I always shut er down that way, it can`t ever flood that way, not ever. Doesn`t smoke much at all when I start it again even after setting for few days. I always start turning it over before I flip the switch back on also.

I use the cutoff switch to shut it down if it's only run for a minute or so. I lived next door to a gas station for a year, and I'd use the cutoff switch if I had to run and get gas before a trip.

Yeah I've always wondered if its a good idea to use it when you don't have to. I mean, obviously if its flooded it may be the only option, but when you shut it down like that youre really just leaning it out until it can't run anymore, right? I know youre not under boost or anything, but still.
I'm not sure, so I don't use mine unless I have to.

It's only bad in the sense that it's just curing the symptom, not the problem.

But good in that it's convenient (as to not have to go out in the pouring rain to unflood the car) and a good security measure.
