fuel cut/check valve clogged?
still troubleshooting the car... was thinkin; could the fuel cut & check valve become clogged and cause my prob's (loses power after about 20 miles of driving, keeps losing more & more as I go on) anybody ever had a prob with this valve?
forgot to mention- I'm thinking the valve's clogged, allowing vacuum to build up in the tank to the point that the fuel pump can't push the gas with any efficiency, and of course, gets worse & worse the longer I try to keep it running...

if you stop the car after it loses power, turn it off, , then turn the key on without starting it.... does it have power again when you start it??... this would give the fuel pump a chance to charge the system again.
If you get power back after that, then you got fuel pressure issues.
if the check valve is clogged... it aint gonna run bery well at all.. don't think thats it....
this sounds more like something is getting warmed up and dying out.

exactly, if i pull the car over & let it ldle a bit, it'll take off again & have (some) power for couple minutes, then it'll start losing it again, to the point where I gotta baby it just to go 30mph...I think we're on to something here...

I doubt the check valve is bad. Its function is to allow air (fuel vapors in this case) to flow in 1 direction. If its bad, air will flow in 2 directions, preventing the tank from being sealed (its supposed to be a vacuum). I don't think that having air and fuel vapors comingling in the take will cause it to run bad. Heres what I would do though.
Open the gas cap and listen if you hear a lot of air escaping like you normally do when you go to fill the tank. Then start the car again and see if it runs better.

I had that probem once in an 85 GS (carbed). Turned out my wife got some bad gas and clogged the filter up. As you run it brings more crap toward the outlet side of the filter till it just can't run anymore. When it sits, the clog dissolves and forms on the bottom of the filter. Running again starts to bring the crap to the outlet side of the filter again. After that a full fuel system inspection was in order. Also found the carb had two fuel lines that run to little strainer baskets, each line was forming sediment inside and restricting the fuel flow.
Hope that helps,
Scott

Yeah, I'm changing the filter too while she's down, even though it's only got 5000 miles on it. If I have time I'll also check the low-pressure filter in the tank...Anybody ever had problems with the pre-mix clogging the filters? Keep the input coming...
