fuel/boost cut??

ok i have a 87 turbo II. im in the process of gettin it up and running again. it had needed a water pump. so i put one on and i take off the stock intake box and put on a cone k,n filter. this car has nothing but like half of a downpipe. well i get it runnin. i i drive like 100 yards down the road and i turned around and came back. after warming up i took it back out and got on it alittle. around 6 it felt like something was holding it back. like it was hittin a cut or somethin. and it ended up backfiring and just cutting off. then became a pain to get it back started. it had ended up flooding out. what is causing this. i can just be holding it at like 6,000 for a bit and hit the gas and it will pop and boog down and cut off, even though im hittin the gas still. thanks

no you can't... can't lower boost with it. only raise.

with stock intake you might still hit it.

with no restrictions your turbo will boost like mad and creep uncontrollably. there are 3 main ways to control boost creep.

1. get a pop-off valve. this is a bad idea. a pop off valve is meant as an emergency backup, not boost control. a pop off valve will vent excess boost before it gets to the engine, which means the turbo would be working a lot harder than it had to.
2. intake/exhaust restriction. this will lower your boost but also the efficiency of your engine. this would be something to do temporarily to keep boost down.
3. wastegate. this is the real way. it will let exhaust bypass the turbine to stop the turbo from spinning past a certain level.
