Question front and rear main seal removal: a manual howto?

yeah, i gave up searching... i basically was wondering if there is a method or way of removing the seals manualy without take them to a shop. becuase i really dont live anywhere near any shops and dont THINK i have access to a puller. i read in a thread that you can just take them out with a screw driver or pry them out. just wanted to check first before i went gung-ho on the lil bastards.

thanks a bunch.

My car's in the shop right now because of a leak in the rear main seal, and I'm pretty sure they have to drop the tranny to get to it; if that helps at all.

To gain access to the rear main seal the trans, clutch and flywheel have to be removed. To gain access to the front main seal, the Eshaft pulley, hub and 19mm bolt need to come off. The main problem with this is that if you do not do it properly the thrust bearings will fall and the front cover will have to come off.

Yes, both of them can be removed with a screwdriver once you gain access to them. However there is a lot of labor to change $10 worth of parts. You may as well upgrade your clutch while you are there, if you haven't already.

OOps just read your second post...
Just use a screwdriver from the inside of the front cover and pop it out, the rear main just use a small prybar/screwdriver
