Front brake question.

I have heard this weird ticking sound lately on my left front brake. I took my wheel off today and looked at my caliper and noticed a wierd shaped piece of metal lodged in the caliper. I lifted the caliper up and took out the piece of metal. Now I just looked on the FSM and it doesn't say where to put the pad spring for the front which is what the wierd piece of metal was. My question is where does it go?
