Front brake disc swap
I have some front wheel hub+discs from a 1986 4 bolt car that have vented discs. Can I just bolt these right onto my 86 4 bolt car with non-vented discs? Will I also need to use the other calipers or are they the same?
Reason I ask is because one of my wheel bearings is bad and I don't want to have to buy a whole new hub. Also my brakes suffer from horrible fading, hoping the vented discs will perform better.
If not, how the hell do I separate the disc from the hub? It pretty much seems like it is one solid piece although I did remove the "hub to disc" screws that did nothing at all. I've beat the crap out of the disc after soaking it with penetrating oil and nothing...hasn't even budged.

The hub is all the way up inside the hat. Lots of taps around the entire circumference of the brake rotor hat area are what you will need. Reach behind the rotor and spray penetrating oil in there. I've had some rotors stuck on hubs before that were very stubborn and just took a lot of patience and a lot of good whacks with the hammer to finally get it loose.

i have both hub assemblies off the car.. am i trying to force the outside facing aluminum part through the steel part? or am i pushing the entire circle including the wheel studs through the center of the disk? (i assume the first one)
anyway i had it sitting on the vice with a block of wood on the center aluminum piece and gave it a couple really hard whacks with the sledge hammer and its still in there..lol. i hope this whole thing will just fit on my car so i dont have to mess around with this anymore.

Well, the hubs for all four bolt cars were the same as far as I know, if you want to go that route and just switch the assemblies. Now that I think about it, I thought all FC front rotors were vented, it didn't matter if it was 4 or 5 bolt hubs. It's the rear 4 bolts and some 5 bolts that had solid discs.

nah my front discs are definitely solid. maybe they are some cheap aftermarket ones, ive only owned the car for a year or so.
and yeah i think im gonna do that. ill have the rotors machined and get the bearings all cleaned out and repacked.

They are a total bitch!
the reason that the Hub won't separate from the rotor is beacuse the Hub is aluminum and the rotor is Steel
What I did to FIX that,(get the hub out of the rotor) is a little extreme.
I cut the Brake DISC right offf the Rotor. That leave you with just the HUB inside a Little Bit of Rotor surrounding the Hub.( leaves you a piece of cast metal, with the 5 stud holes, around the Hub).
then take a 3 pound sledge and BREAK pieces off from around the Hub.It will just Crumble when you hit it as it is CAST and not solid metal..it works Great!.You may need a chisel to oget around teh hub when you get close, but it willbreak off pieces of cast metal from around the hub, when you hit the chisel anyways.
If you try to bang the Hub out by the Studs it will only Push the Studs out of the Hub,and my damage the stud threads,or the nuts.So Doing it "MY WAY" assures that the hub comes out intact.
