fresh rebuild/ starts-runs-dies

My buddy just installed his rebuilt t2 engine. It starts up fairly easily, runs for less than 30 seconds and then dies, and typically backfires like a shotgun. Fuel pressure is not dying (aftermarket fpr w/ gauge). He has a rtek 2.0 installed and everything looks to be normal according to the sensors. Any suggestions/ideas?

Motor is stock ports, bnr turbo, 750cc injectors (programmed in the rtek).

Thanks
Chris

Have you tried to raise the idle until break in has started. May help.

backfiring is due to unburnt fuel in the exhaust and not due to just abnormally rich mixtures(think rotor pushing fuel but not igniting it.)

check the timing, ignition and check the engine compression, one of those 3 is out of whack.

I'll try raising the idle, and I understand what you're saying rotary evolution. I'll do an actual compression test just for numbers. Timing could be off, but we have stabbed the CAS twice with the same results. It definitely runs better with the timing advanced from dead center of the CAS slot.
