fresh motor probs!

I am new to this site, I am mainly a dsm guy but I do have a 1g rx7 with widebody kit that is in storage till Im done with my talon. Anyways I have a freind with a turbo 2 and he just recently droped in a fresh motor from sp enginering. Problem:The car can rev up, but it wont drive in gear over 3000 rpms, I think its the secondary injectors not firing, he thinks it because it hasent built compression yet. Anybody have any idea why the car wont drive past 3 grand?

If it's a series 5 (1989 or newer) there's a good chance it's the oil metering pump holding it in limp mode.

Im in IL, but what I mean is that the can rev to what ever rpm desired in nuetral, but in gear (any) wont drive past 3k. Well today he cracked the intake manifold so it wont be running for a while. I am allmost positive that its the secondary injectors.

injectors wouldn't cause that, they'd do that around 3500-4000rpm, not at 3000

I have no idea how he cracked the manifold, my guess he torqed it down wrong. Its a fresh motor, not even a hundred miles on it. Whats the "omp"? This kid takes forever, so it would be a while to get the car running again to pull codes. Some dude with a turbo II said that the car has to build compression to go over 3k since its a fresh motor, but I dont belive that.

OMP is the oil metering pump, if it's a 89 or newer, i'll bet $10 that's the cause

The motor will rev to oblivion regardless of its compression. Just not a good idea to do that till the apex seals seat. (400 miles is a good break in period)

From all I know about the s5's, I'm with the OMP crowd on this one.

Did you clear the ECU to get rid of any old codes?? Try disconnecting the battery for like 60 seconds then reconnect. Its worth a shot. Was it flashing any codes before??

The car is back together again, runs. Havent taken it out on the road yet. Seems to be running healthy.Battery has been out of the car for weeks, so Im sure all the codes if any are cleared. Whats a good way to check codes with out buying that mazda voltmeter tool? If the car still wont drive past 3k than what should I check for? Keep in mind everything is new except wiring.
