fresh blood with lost and overwhelmed thoughts

Basically the title says it all. I just got my 88 rx7 TII this past thursday. Let me tell you what I love driving that car around. It's so much fun! Of course like everyone else, I can't wait to let it burn a hole in my wallet. After searching this forums over the last few days, and trying to plot out the way I want to go about things, I believe I've just ended up confusing myself. In the long run, I'm really not trying to get a record speed breaking car. Nor am I trying to become the king of the drag strip. I just want a quick little street car.

So here's what I want to do:
In the end. I see my car with a FMIC replacing the TMIC. I see the stock turbo charger pushing 8 psi (I say 8 because the Fuel Cutoff is set to 8.5 correct? This way I figure I can leave my fuel system alone). I see a more efficient intake and exhaust system.

Stock, I've read that the 88 TII 7 will run a low 15. In the end, if I could get into the mid to high 13's, I would be completely happy.

What my car currently has:
GReddy PROFEC B Spec 2 Boost Controller (Came with the car, new in box, uninstalled)
A'pexi Turbo Timer (Came with the car, new in box, uninstalled) (I've read that with the stock turbo being water cooled, the turbo timer isn't needed. I figured it probably couldn't hurt to install this so I figure I'll drop the few bucks for the harness and put it in. It's not like it could hurt anything right?)
Custom Exhaust (Basically, this just means that the PO had welded new mufflers to the stock exhaust piping.)
GReddy RS BOV (Now one question I had about this was, isn't the S4 a recycling system. The previous owner had blocked of the area that the recycling tube would go into and just had the BOV open (to make the *psh* sound I assume). Is there anyway to make this back into a closed system with the RS BOV?)

I really would appreciate some words of advice/wisdom, as like I said I'm just learning this stuff as of 5 days ago.

Greddy makes a recirculating attachment for the Type-RS blow-off valce. ATP Turbo sells them.

http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/me...egory_Code=BOV

down near the bottom.

before you get a free flowing exhaust and intake, get a FCD, so you dont reach fuel cut-off. do a full tune-up and address supporting mods first.

if you go with a "free flowing exhaust and intake" you will need to port your stock waste gate to prevent boost creep...

What would a full tune-up and all supporting mods consist of?

Sorry for the ignorance.

Do a full 60K tune up, replacing all the fluids (including brake, clutch, tranny, engine oil, coolant, and rear end lube), spark plugs and cables, all filters (including fuel, oil and air), belts, any hoses that are leaking or bulging, and the O2 sensor. In addition if the car is more than 10 years old or has more than 120K miles on it, the Pulsation Dampener (or pimary fuel rail and integrated Pulsation Dampener on 89-91 FCs) should be also replaced.

you can also look in the FAQ at the top of the page, it has tons of info in it.

Actually, I've done most of that as per suggestion in the FAQ. This past saturday I did Oil, Tranny, and Rear Dif fluid changes. Have a new air filter and O2 sensor on order, and should be doing the rest of the fluids/belts/hoses this next weekend. Any suggestions on websites to order new spark plugs from, as well as a new PD?

When a full tune up was mentioned, I assumed you meant some sort of street performance tune.

well any auto parts stores that carry NGK should have the right plugs. and i think www.mazdatrix.com will have the PD.

Wow, a new guy that actually read the FAQ! It is a godsend! If you're in the market for a FMIC, Corksport just came out with their full FMIC kit which also includes an intake(!). It's considerably less than the standard Greddy kit and about two or three arms and legs less than the HKS kit.
Definately look into a REAL exhaust, rather than some mufflers on the stock piping. I personally have the RB exhaust, which is a favorite around here. There are several brands, all great, but I believe most people are down with the Racing Beat.

I was actually looking at the Racing Beat Rev TII Turbo exhaust system. Although, when I go with that I'm going to have to get the FCD. I guess I'd have to get one anyway so why not.

I'll look up the corksport FMIC. I was actually browsing their site the other day, but didn't see it. Although admittedly I wasn't looking for FMICs at the time.

well with the corksport kit, you have to remove AC i believe, and relocate your battery, or get a smaller battery, there is some cutting too, if you dont want to do much cutting i would reccomend the old HKS kit or the old Trust/greddy kit. only require 1 hole cut, and you can retain all accesories, ac/ps..

Where would I find these at?

I found the corksport intercooler and noticed that they offer 4 different sizes. Does the size of of an intercooler make much of a difference. Also, for $250, I assume that it does not come with the charge pipe?

If you go with the RB exhaust or other, be sure to replace your secondary injectors with 720cc and port your wastegate. If you run lean your engine will go BOOM.

What are some good places to watch for an older intercooler. I'd like to stay away from ebay. I know you said the classifieds, are you talking about places like craigslist or something?

Just use some sense when doing the eBay thing. I've never had any ordeal with eBay and I've been using it for 8 years. You can come across some deals on there.
I did forget about the A/C removal deal for the Corksport kit, I had already done that and relocated the battery so I was lookin into one myself. That was a "my bad."

we're looking at a zero percent chance of you avoiding fuel cut if you use the Rev TII system. The stock wastegate is pathetic... it will need to be aggressively ported

I've come to realize that. I guess my biggest concern with having to do the FCD, is my assumption that were I to throw that in, I would also need to throw in a better fuel management system/ecu. Is that correct?
