Fresh air scoop

I just purchased a K&N FIPK kit for my 88' GXL.. In the instructions it says to remove the fresh air scoop.. Are there any advantages to leaving it on or should I remove it?? Thanks for all the help and advice.. Have a Good Weekend..

It only works when its sealed really so its worthless now. BTW I think you just got ripped off. The FIPK kit is too much money for what you can do with about half the money for the same bs.

RRTEC I got out for a while but then I crashed my 87 and it was basically totaled. Trying to get my Turbo II back to working.

Yes, just take it off since it no longer serves a function. You may want to keep the original parts stored in a box in case you plan on selling your RX-7 and want to convert it back to stock form.

Make sure you just remove the scoop snorkel. The large radiator shroud below it, and the two plastic duct pieces to the right and left of the hood latch, needs to stay on the car for proper cooling.

It's a bit pricy at $200, but you get the whole tube and deflector along with a top of the line K&N filter, so it's pretty good for those who don't want to spend all weekend fabricating a ghetto kit on their own.

i built a cold air box with the fresh air scoop included into the design...where the fresh air scoop used to feed into the stock air filter, it just empties into the cold air box with a k&n filter...i can take some pics of it if you would like to see it.
