Freind may buy an RX7, need diagnosis

A freind of mine wants to buy a 89 rx7 na. Its only $500 and he doesnt mine putting in some money to get it fixed, but he would like to get an idea of what hes looking at for possible problems. Heres what wrong with it
-95k on body & 65k on engine
-Starts fine
-Idles high, about 2500-3000, then stalls after a half mile of driving.
-previous owner says there was a nitrous kit install improperly that blew the mas. I asuume worse. probably a dry shot too.
-car also has HKS CAI & an upgraded muffler w/ stock pippes.

I know this is sketchy, but this is all he could give me, I would like to help him out, or he might get a bubble back civic

They all have a high idle if the gear shift is in the neutral position when starting. As soon as he puts it into a gear (with the clutch in of course) or the car runs more than 2 minutes or so; it will drop down to around 1500 RPM and continue to drop as the engine gets warmer. Eventually it should idle ar around 700 RPM.

Can't stall and be at 3000rpm. Got to be one or the other. Maybe he stalled it with the clutch?

Get the dealership to the rotary specific compression test on the engine. The results should let you know the condition of the internals.

does it still stall if you just let it idle until warm? if so id bet it's prob. not a vacume leak if it starts and runs under it's own power i.e you don't have to gass it to keep it running. check the compression first then look to the fuel pump relays and filter even the injectors. it sounds like it might just not be getting fuel or it's got a slow compression leak. any smoke?

well the owner says that a nitrous kit was installed wrong and it blew the mas. would that cause these problems?
