Free/Cheap Power in an N/A

OK, I want to know what I can do to my 87 GXL for free or total less than a couple hundred (in parts).

I am quite handy with the tools so I don't figure in labor costs, just parts.

I already plan on street porting (or other port) my engine sometime soon, so any other ideas for cheap/free stuff??

Gut cats.
Remove emissions.
lightweightening, and removing non-essentials -- (windows, doors, carpet, seats ... use vicegrips instead of steering wheel, etc)
Wire the 5/6th ports open, or use an aircompressor/rpm switch to activate them.
of course there's porting, but not only the engine, the throttle body, the intake manifolds...
build your own cold air intake out of Dynomax U-Bends
etc etc etc

These dynomax U-bends.....hmmm where would you get this, and has anyone done it? Do you weld them together?

They're just mandrel-bent U-Shaped peices of pipe. You cut them to the angle you desire, and weld them up, or use silicon interconnects.

Peruse through that for awhile. Also visit the 2nd gen archive. Plenty of good information out there.
