I knew there was a post recently about it.
The trick isnt only the seats but a person who can rebuild the foam so it looks nice and tight and factory, luckily I have a local guy who has been doing interiors for about 40 years, $1000 for both seats in vinyl, and there is no doubt in my mind as to the quality of his work. $1400 for leather.

the cushion's really never go bad unless you rip it. I'm voting for seat covers.

BTW - you can buy new seats for like $1600 I think.

You want vert seat covers? These are yet another "Scalliwag" project. They have top grade material that looks and feels like leather. I did the center sections in a carbon fiber style heavy tweed material. I like the look of leather but I hate to get my *** toasted in the Texas heat. Since I have quite a bit of carbon fiber in my interior I decided on the carbon pattern. The picture does not do the material justice.
I am doing the headrests next week. Note the shifter boot. The side panels and the rear deck come up next.
So far everybody loves them.
I am trying to decide on a price for sets. There is a shitload of sections and they are not the easiest seats to do.
Does anyone know if there is any difference in the '88's and the '89-'91's? These are '88's so that is the only patterns I have.
I am doing a set with black suede bolsters and the carbon pattern centers for a friend. I am not too crazy about the suede but he insists on it.
Let me know what you guys think and if there is any interest.
I am thinking of doing some non-vert seats too.

yeah I actually like that, since I don't care for leather (too slippery).

I would be intrested in those with perhaps a different material in the center section (and enough spare matieral to do the door inserts).

what price are you thinking???

Here are pics of seats from a '90 vert off of a closed auction on ebay. They appear to be the same.
Once I get my friends seats I will know since his is a '91.

I would need to get $625.00 per set plus shipping on the seat covers including the headrest. A matching boot would be $35.00. I will have to get measurements on the door inserts and look up mat costs to get a price for that. I would want to do mine first and probably take pictures. The thing to remember is once you cut it, it's like cutting a board too short. I would probably give the option for me to cut that to fit, mark the sides and fold points to be safe.
A PM I received pointed out something. When I say seat cover this does not refer to a pullover tie down seat cover. I would think that would be obvious but let me clarify. (Word of advice, never PM when your are drunk!)
This involves pulling the old fabric off and putting these on just like the stock covers. While this is by far the easiest step it can be fugged up too.
I can take pics and give step by step on that too. In case you are not familiar with me and my step by steps look at my details on these threads:
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=144200
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=123225
So I smell a new thread for installing covers. For the ball-less or those that do not have time and/or patience you could take them to a upholstery shop and they could do it for you.
Word of advice to save money, pull the seats out and take them with the backs seperated and MARK ALL the pieces as to which side is which. With my seats you will notice the tweed pattern is directional. If you can't figure out why that could create a problem read this when you are not drunk
This is getting too long. More later. Here is the pic of the '90 seat from ebay.

Watch the direction on patterned material and use little spring clamps to hold the material. Since you lay the panel on top of the material you are looking at it from the back so you need to be able to flip it back over and look from a bit of a distance or use a trick I will show you later in a future post. You use a piece of cardboard that has the angle cut on it and reference points for edges. You flip it over to do the opposite side and that way both sides are the same. I will have pics to clarify later. Remember this: You don't have to be too crooked to be too crooked. Oh, and never use a freak'n drill to make the holes it the material no matter what. (I won't bother with the details on that) I would probably give the option for me to cut that to fit, mark the sides and fold points to be safe.

nice work scalliwag, but personally I feel the perforated look of the 1988 seats looks best, even better then the 90 seats. I will take some pics when mine are done, im holding off because I am also selling another vert and might have the guy do both cars and maybe a top for the one im selling.

I have the perforated material available in the same material as the solid.
If you do not have carbon fiber accesories this would not look AS good. But when you have carbon fiber Grant steering wheel, shifter ****, e-brake handle, and assorted other dash items it all goes together.

How much are they costing you?

the skins are $400 but the place will only sell to interior shops, so I guess buying from a shop they might mark it up 20% or so to about $480, he has leather as well for $800.

Anyone that has worked these seats can understand that price. It is pretty scary to get hit with that kind of quote though when you don't understand the process.
I saw some vert seats a guy had done that did not have all the sections made. It was a solid center on the bottom and the top. It looked like ****.
Word of advice to everyone; if you take your seats somewhere to be covered be sure to tell them that you want them made the same as stock.
I wish I had a picture of those seats. I was out driving my vert one day and saw him in a parking lot and wanted to check out his car. It had 17" tuner wheels, a TII hood (like mine ) a descent looking aftermarket rear spoiler and it was pretty sharp.
I looked in the interior and damn near ****.
He had taken it to a shop and they quoted a good price and he said okay and made a really bad assumption. It looked like they refoamed the seats so they could make the least amount of seams without leaving dead spots under the cover.
He said they had him by the nads and it was his own fault. A hard way to learn a lesson.
