If its missing compression, all you gotta do is find it.. I suggest checking the glove box, or one of the bins in back...
Anyhow, if its low on compression it could just need a decarbonizing. If it has NO compression on one, or all of the rotor faces, it will need rebuilt/replaced.

I'll save you alot of time and flaming and insults from other people.
quick lesson on a rotary.
No compression = Rebuild.
if theres no compression, that means the high possiblity of an apex seal failure. worst case scenario with that is, if one of those go, it fragments, gets thrown around the rotor housing, ******* up the rotor, the housing, and then gets shot out the exhaust. in this case of it being a turbo, it probabily took the turbo out with it.
Thats the long and short of it basicly.
Few helpful resources are
www.rotaryresurrection.com for rebuilds
if you don't know what your getting into I HIGHLY recomend you pay someone to do the rebuild for you.

Agreed. Rotary was the first engine I learned ALL my mechanical knowledge on and it has been 6 years......still learning and still FRUSTRATED
Check the compression and get some real numbers. If it needs a rebuild, get it done by a ROTARY specialist only and see if you can watch or assit. It will help you in understanding your new type of engine. Trust me, it will help. Good luck dude! Welcome!

One of my best friends, well I'm good friends with his brother too.He actually sold me my first car. He's a mechanic, he isn't a rotary specialist, but he does work on them, His friend has an rx-7 also(not sure what year/generation) And All my familly do mechanics, my uncle works on rotary sometimes. So I would be doing the rebuild with someone more experienced. The whole point is to learn, I'm finishing up my last year of highschool and going into mechanics anyway. Up till now I've only been toying around with my z24.I'm looking forward to getting my hands dirty and learning something new. Thanks all!
