i think that maybe there was an aftermarket alarm on there at one point and they took the alarm out and left the actuators. imo.

i also agree with this also. i remeber reading somewhere that some fc's came with factory door actuators that did that when you would unlock the drivers door the passenger door would unlock also. so it could be both.

The driver side door lock is probably aftermarket.
The stock automatic lock was only on the passenger door.
The factory alarm is in the CPU by the drivers left foot.

You will find a mirror of the on-line factory manuals at the link in my sig.
Download & print what you need.

i have an 88 GTU and i don't have any of that stuff as far as i know the gtu didn't come with any of that stuff no power windows or door locks so someone added that stuff at one time and also the brain for the factory alarm is on the passengers side behind the speaker and panel under the glove box unplug it and theres no more factory alarm. I know this because i did it on my car!!!!

Only on the S5 models... he has a S4.

Either way, the stock door lock system only had a door lock motor in the passengers door. If there are locks that look the same in both doors, then those locks are aftermarket.

How, exactly are they supposed to work? I know I have to lock my car from the outside since it will unlock itself when I shut the door. And I have to have my passenger exit and shut their door first so that I can lock it by hand after they close it.

Yep...maybe he is thinking its like some lame GM or something where you just lock it and close the door (and hopefully didn't lock the keys in the car).

The factory security system brain is located just under the glove box on your 88 and is a silver metal box.

The post about it being in the CPU does not apply to your year.

As well as the power door locks you found are indeed aftermarket. Chances are the brain you found under the driver's dash is the aftermarket system, as most of the very retarded and lame car installers out there locate the aftermarket alarm brains there. Better installers would locate it in a hard to reach place.

i have a similar problem, my when i lock and close the passanger door is it locked, but if its unlocked and i lock the drivers door the button on the passanger door goes down but does not lock..
even worse if the passanger door is locked and i lock the drivers door is unlocked the passnager door!!!
the only way to have them both locked it to lock the drivers and then the passangers....
help, if there a fuse i can remove to just disable the hole damn "feature", i have an 88 GXL, thanks!
