Found out whats casuing the massive bad MPG!

My buddy came in woke me up and was like "dude... look under your car..."

Reluctantly, I got up to find a decent sized puddle of gaseoline. After examining the tank, it appears the strap has cut its way through. It looks likes it losing about a gallon/day. Lucky meh eh?

What are my options?

Drop it, flush it, and have someone weld it?
Drop it, get a new?
Dropit, FUEL CELL.

Which is most convienient. I'd like to put a fuel cell in personaly, but you know...

Kinda cuts into my texas plans :/

I called a mechanicaly inclided friend and he told me they make this liquid gas sealer... Iwas like, that ***** gotta be harsh on the rest of the fuel system, lol. I'd rather replace the thing than try to ghetto fix it, but...

Luiquid Gas Tank Sealer, only works on punctures, I would not use it if the strap has caused the tank to befome weak and crack, Get a used tank from a wreckers, or get a new one, A fuel cell is ultimately the safest but definitely one of the most expensive!

I'd have to bring a tankin from at least 500 miles, were in the middle of nowhere here...

If I justified $150 to set it up, could I afford a fuel cell?

And how do they get the fuel cell to stay put?

I've got two spare S4 tanks. If you want to pay for shipping you can have one for 30+s/h I'll flush it out with water so the ups truck don't explode

s4s are different design i think. Plus shipping would probably be around $80... after that, its getting near cost effective to get a fuel cell

And kenteth your signature is still in violation of forum rules... 6 lines max, including images.

Of course that is besides the actual content of the signature which when I saw it ealier today, screams that you want to be known as an a$$hole.

yeah, actually it was meant to be a funny, I didn't recognise it as an insult. Aaron got with me about it, its changed. Sorry, seriously was meant as a joke. I wasn't trying to put the mods down, you guys do a great job keeping the site clean of riffraff. Anyhow, its changed.

UPS ships by weight. A tank couldn't be that heavy. The post office is slow but cheap

but ou run the risk of it happening again......either on the same side or on the other strap.............it should be temporary while you save for a fuel cell.

i would replace it with a new tank or a good used one.

don't go with a fuel cell unless you know what you are doing, a fuel cell is not legal for street use and unless it is grounded properly it can cause a fire in the tank from static electricity. i have seen people with fuel cells improperly installed fuel up at a gas station and have a static discharge from the pump nozzle which caught the fuel cell on fire, the people were just lucky their whole cars didn't go up in flames but do you know hard it is to get a fuel tank fire out without ruining the fuel system or the interior of the car?

fuel cells are made to be filled by a grounded tank, such as a plastic/nylon tank or a metal can with a person acting as a ground not a fuel pump nozzle.

If it was going ot be installed using the stock fill neck, isn't there a rubber hose that connects to the metal fill thing?

Weight and size... if it beyond certain dimensions it is considered heavy.

Yeah i'd go with a stock tank, i'd love a fuel cell but it's easily seen through the bakc hatch and cops and fuel cells don't mix well here

Try welding the tank back together while there is still gas in it. Should help out with the welding.

Seriously, don't do that.

Replacing a gas tank sucks, and it's really a problem I've only seen on 1st gens not 2nd gens, but I guess if they rot, they rot, then you are screwed.

Btw, UPS ships on weight and dimensions.

I'll have an s4 I can part with at some point in the next month.

I could probably get it to you for less than $50 shipped.
