what's left of my 90 GTU (now converted to turbo in my sig) invoice:

Also, something some of you may not have seen.

This stuff was in my car when I got it (2 owner car) along with tons of receipts for service work, tires, etc. Included were some dealer warranty service repairs along the following lines. These were within 1-2 years of the car being new:
"customer states sunroof panel does not open without assistance"
"customer states engine dies at stops with a/c engaged"
"customer states engine idle fluctuates"
I had to
while reading those, and people on this forum think that something is wrong with their FC's that have those same issues 20 years later.

23 grand was a lot for a car back in 88. I think at the time you could get a mustang or camaro for under 20, and a corvette for a bit over 30, all of which would outperform the rx7 in most areas. It is for this reason that I have a hard time understanding why people were so rough on rx7s when they cost so much...most of them that havent already been restored have had front end collisions, the interior is all ratted out, the engine barely runs, etc. You may think that this is normal for a 20 year old car, but I was finding them this way back in 98-99 when I first started looking at them.

Its not like you would go out and find a Corvette for the most part in as bad of shape as you would find a RX. I don't see how people would have spent so much money on a car and then treat it like crap just a few years later. The condition you find most RX7s in would lead you to believe that the car was equal to something in the economy class of today NOT a high end sports car. Sure it wasn't an exotic but it by no means was a piece of crap.
I love modifying RX7s but if I had the money to buy a very low mileage FC in 100% perfect condition I'd pay a good coin for it. Just to have that "new" crisp feel to it.
From an inflation calculator:
That's basically the cost of a C6 today. The Turbo II was on a much higher level than the Rx-8 is today, pricewise.
And I disagree that the Turbo II underperformed the other cars out there. When it first hit showrooms in 86 it was nasty. What else was faster? 944 Turbo maybe, and the C4 was perhaps a little faster. But in a straight line Mustangs and Camaros were not even breaking into the 14's, although neither was the T2. In 86 the T2 was also faster than the Supra, Starion, and to a lesser extent the 300zx.
Oh and I love the part about 7,500 mile oil changes. No wonder a lot of original engines didn't last long.
What cost $23207 in 1988 would cost $39702.39 in 2006.

Ditto! I haven't seen one for any 91 yet... Supposedly the guy I bought my 91 from has it "somewhere in his files".. but I have yet to get it. He was the original owner and has the original pamphlets and brochures for it as well. Pretty cool stuff.
Here is one on eBay from a very nice vert. Can you believe over $28,000? I'm not sure how to attach a pic so that it shows up WITHOUT being an attachment so I will let someone else do it. Or, can someone enlighten me...

i think i might have been the owner of that car before the person you just bought it from. are the windows tinted? does it have an autometer a pillar pod with boost and a/f? is there a section of paint missing on the hood? do you have any pics of it?
