Hey Everybody,
I've been rotorless for about 8 months as my second engine blew on my n/a. Being busy during school and tight with cash I was about to give up my rotory projects and was almost goign to give in to buying a 240sx, 300zx, or supra. Until I was talking to my local Mazda dealer and he said this dude wants to sell a 10th Anniversary who doesn't know what's wrong with it. My rotory dreams emerged again. I called the guy up and told me where it was but couldn't come by to see it with me so I went to see it. The car has been sitting on the smallest little dead end street near a railroad in my small city of Thunder Crap Ontario. This was rare as I have never seen a turbo in my city ever. Nonthless this car is amazing. All badges intact, great rubber, no rust, all leather except for a few rips, although someone started taking the intercooler apart and the alternator and air box off. Over the phone he said he would like 2000 for the car. I think he wants a little too much unless the engine is flooded or something simple needs fixing. I have yet to find out the details about why he started taking it apart, etc. Anyhow, I know lots about n/a's but not much about turbo's. What should I look for or do? I was thinking taking the spark plugs out and listening for the 3 whooshes or something. Either way if the engine is toast or not I want this car in my driveway very soon.
So what is a good price for the engine being shot and the description I gave. This car is in amazing shape. Also wondering how many of these cars were made in Canada. Was there 1500 only in the whole world or 1500 each in Canada and the States? sorry bout the length? And thanks for any input!!

Bump
What else should I look for besides compression? How can I tell if the turbo is seized or not?
How much for a J-spec in Canada?
1500 in the world or Canada alone?

well, there are plenty of things you could check obviously. I mean, does it the engine even turn over? how about all hoses and everything attached. Check spark plugs and make sure they're in even good shape. fuses. wiring. It could be simple or it could be complicated. Try bump starting it too, you could see if she's flooded. Of course, you'd need everything put back together.

I'd say buy the car for sure. Even if it has no compression and needs a rebuild, worst case scenario that car will cost you 5k to get back on road if engine is blown if you only pay 2 or less. So think of it that way, would you pay 5k for that car if it ran perfectly? I bet you would.....buy it up and fix her up....and good luck on it.

Take 1300 and a friend, when you negotiate, tell him you brought all the money you could. If he insists on a higher price, "borrow" money from your friend and make him feel bad.
That and don't look like you know too much about the car. Just say you always liked the way it looked and wanted one.

I figured the guy saw I had $800 usd cash and realized I was working during school for like $6 an hour and realized he would miss that $200 usd a lot less than I did. If he said no, I definantly would of gave him the $1000 USD.
