Ford Ranger transmission = TII transmission?

I heard this somewhere and was wondering if anyone could chime in?

I looked at the FSM trying to find the model number for the TII transmission as a starting point to find out what was used in the similar year span Ford Rangers but it didn't have it in there, at least no in the Manual Transmission/Technical Specs sections.

I dunno, but Mazda did release the B2000 or 3000, i.e. Ranger, so it's a ultra remote chance. I'd venture towards not very likely, if at all.

Actually the mazda B chasis pickups are the same as the ford rangers.

I was actually asking the same question not long ago. For sure the b3000 tranny is not the same as a rx7 tranny. Its got a slave cyl inside the bellhousing, and the bellhousing is not unboltable from the gearbox.

lame

Though I did find this interesting page: http://www.projectzerog.com/rx7transmissions.shtml

Since he refers to RX-7 transmission as "R" transmissions I am guessing that our trannys are the G5M-R model.

Apparently Mazda has only ever had 4 different models of 5speed transmissions.

* M5 — 5-speed
* M5OD — 5-speed longitudinal
* G5M — 5-speed
* G5M-R — 5-speed

According to wikipedia at least.

I saw that same website and posted about it too. Hmmmm, I went to a non pick a part junkyard. And the dude had checked up a 95 b300 truck, and his computer had a system where it matches up other cars with the same tranny. I wonder what would happen if he typed up a rx7 tranny

I've done a rotary swap into an older b2000 truck before...the rx7 nonturbo trans is very, very similar to the truck trans. It is nothing like the rx7 turbo trans, just like the rx7 na trans isn't.

In fact, the truck's driveshaft slid right into the rx7/rotary transmission. The slave cylinders were in different spots, and other than that, all that had to be fabbed were motor mounts. If I recall, the transmission mounts actually lined up as well...but it's been about 6 or 7 years.

The TII tranny's are R type. The N/A are M type.

The Ranger and F150 both used a R-type tranny for a while. Bell housing (which unbolts on the R-type) was different, but the tranny design is the same.

I also heard some pre-95 Mustangs used it, but I have yet to see one and think it is an old wives tale.

Mazda designations they used. I believe it was the R that's based on the RX-3 tranny.

Do a search under "R type" and put Icemark as the username.

So if this is the case and you wanted a transmission with higher ratios, you could just take the cog-box from a ranger or B-series truck of the right age (86-87 if i understand that link correctly?), slap your bellhousing and tail-stock on it, and reinstall? hmm... cool

Ok if this is the case I'd really like to know. This would make it alot easier to find a tranny.

miata internals might swap into the NA (M-type) transmission, but the R-type? Did the ranger transmissions have 2nd and 5th gear synchro issues?

I knew the B's were Rangers, hence the i.e. We used to have a Ranger and the transmission definitely had some synchro problemos. But somehow I usually end up having something wrong with the cars we buy. Shifting in to second sometimes was a chore, so you'd have to JDM shift it. I.E. jam the fudge out of it.

I believe someone straight up used a miata transmission in an NA FC, I think RX7Girl or something, she made a write up about it. Probably is in the archive by now.

The Miata input shaft is longer, besides that it all works. You just need to shorten the input shaft about 3/10ths of an inch and make a new pilot bearing surface. There is a lot of info on this swap out there.

Right now there is a guy in British Columbia that has an FC with the Miata Internals in his Transmission.(so yes it Has been done!)..RX7girl has also done the Mod with the Miata Internals..If you Search her name ,The Reading is pretty informative.I was actually Trying to get the Trans from the Guy in BC,But he is Still undecided on what he is going to do with his car.(sell it whole,rebuild,or Part it)...On the Other end,I have heard of a TII engine in a B series Mazda truck..I am still trying to find out If the Trans will be a straight Hook-up or if the whole TII eng/trans has to be used.

Look at the Toyo-Kogyo 83-87 tranny.

Look at the parts breakdown of it.
It's a Mazda Model "R" transmission.
