Fog light H3 conversion- How to..w/pic
A few people have asked me how I converted my factory fog lights from the strange H3 "style" bulbs with the proprietary plug on it, to the regular H3 bulbs.
The stock bulbs are available pretty huch only from the dealer, and are stupid expensive. The regular H3 bulbs can be had anywhere, in differnt wattages and types.
Anyways, some people didn't understand my intructions, so when I had my lights apart today to polish the lenses and to install my nice 100w xenon bulbs, I snapped a pic of the easy mod.
I did it 2 years ago when I got the car and both bulbs were burnt out. No way I was going to pay for the factory bulbs.
You just add the black wire, from one side of the factory plug, and attach it to the base of the bulb socket (It's the ground) easy as that. The white wire that plugs into the other side of the factory plug is the wire that comes attached to every H3 bulb.
Easy and saves lots of cash!

Few q's.
1. Aren't the factory lights rated for only 55w?
2. What can you do about keeping the ground wire far away from the housing for the bulb. I've done this and ran into problems with the wires insulation melting on contact with the bulb housing...
I'd recommend it if you use the extra wire that comes with it that's wrapped the way the attatched wire. Just attach a spade to one end for easy hookup.
Costs savings? About 20 dollars per light!

I agree with you completely- use heat-insulated wire. I just didn't have any. But they seem to be holding up fine.
Yes the factory bulbs are 55W.. 100w work fine though- I just changed the fuse fomr a 10 to a 15 amp too. Wire seem fine.
