FMIC/VMIC - Removal of Rebar?

Hey I'm in the middle of routing my IC lines and installing my new bumper. I noticed that the rebar is smack right in the way of my InterCooler and my bumper.
I wanna hear what people have done in going about the rebar. I personally prefer retaining the rebar but it acts as an obstruction of airflow in my setup.

by "rebar" are you referring to the front impact bar that sits underneath the front bumper, bolting on to the ends of the two main chassis rails?

in my old FC i unbolted it and left it off to mount my FMIC right up the front. It was left off simply to place the IC, airflow didn't get a chance to enter the equation for me (500x300x75)

If you want to retain it, you'd do well to establish precisely how large a core you can fit into the space between the two rails and impact bar. Then factor in endtanks...

I'd ideally like to keep the FMIC in there, retain the impact bar, have a 450mm or so wide core (widest you can get away with) but make it as thick as you can (like a spearco 100mm thick core)
have the inlet and outlet entering and exiting at 45 degree angles
and angle the radiator back with spacers a little (requiring efans) so that the IC piping can be run the the gap created between the radiator and radiator support.

Nice, short, direct piping to a substantially sized front mounted core with the impact bar retained.

You're stuffed in the event of an accident anyway...
the bingle I had in an FC twisted the impact rather badly, so I shudder to think what would have happened to a nice, expensive FMIC had it had one. Guess I'll probably find out, I'm getting another big B&P core mounted up front soon.

Tempting Fate,
PG.

Yeah, I think this was not too clear... Rebar in the USA is a specific type of bendable building metal designed for renforcing concrete.

It is here in Canada also, But some of the body shops called the pumpers rebar from back in the day when all it was a round pice of steel with a crome plate infront of it, that is why they are nick named rebar!

you mean your front end isn't made of rebar and concrete

maybe that's why my car is so slow

Yea excatley. We call it the rebar over here in our shop. Othwise known as the bumper impact bar.

There is little to no room to mount a FMIC witht he factory bumper impact bar on. So I'm plannin on retaining the brackets and fabricating my own bar, that doesn't occupies as much room as the factory one did. Main reason for the bar is to pass vehicle inspection, in case I get one in the future.
