The FMIC project Completed!!!
Some of you may remember that i started to put together a "KIT" of sorts for a FMIC. Well, after a LONG time commin... Its done!!!!!
This was the Idea...
1 Keep cost low as possible
2 use an IC that would give the best cooling for the buck
3 NOT have to remove the bumper
4 have the IC mounted a few inches BACK from the front lip so as to protect it from rocks, curbs, birds, dead bums.. etc.
Here are the results
as for results.. at 6 psi today (which is all the further i've tuned the haltech) with 90 degree outside air temp and 115 degree asphalt temps, the air temps on the haltech showed 113. Last night in cooler weather, at 6 PSI i was reading 93 degrees at 6psi on a long blast in third gear.
We'll see how she does under higher boost pressures as i get the haltech tuned in.
as for cost...
IC ..... 285
4 2.5" steel mandrel u's 72
Intake Adapter 85
2.5 to 2 inch turbo adapter 18
2 feet of 2.5"silicon tubing 20
Welding of pipe 50
12 T-bolt clamps 36
Total 566
I'm going to have the pipe work powdercoated over the winter with that new chrome powdercoating to both keep it from rusting and add some bling... that should be about 50 bucks since i know the dude!
You can get everything excecept the intake adapter from JRPerrot.. and I would imagine he'd do a package price...
I got my intake adapter from a guy on ebay.... i really freaking like it, but the dude dissappeared... BUT, HIGGI has his for sale for 100 bucks shipped.
One thing i did note.. and i have to change my signature... The FAL Black Magic fan just didn't have enough *** to it to keep the engine temps under control, ,they were always dancing around 200 degrees under a load..... I blame two things on this.. 1) Not enough coverage of the radiator... the FAL only coveres about 3/5 of the radiator. 2) restricted airflow from FMIC
I'm going to experiment with other electric fans (bigger.. more radiator coverage) but for right now.. the stock fan is kicking *** temps are 188-190 boost or no boost!

wow good info! Thanks! I might just do this. I'm looking at an intercooler now that may be a tad cheaper however I have some questions
1. what demensions are the intercooler?
2. was there any cutting involved (on frame)
3. looks like you have power steering and a/c?
4. what exactly did you get welded? did you weld each peice together and then put silicone tubing over each weld??
Thanks!

YOD. That setup looks very good indeed. Especially for the price. Intercooler location is perfect.
But, how the heck to you get at your spark plugs with the routing?
Stick with the stock fan and shrouding. I have a huge VintageAir fan, and it can't keep the car really cool either. My friend Ian with a similar setup and a stock fan, has no problems.
Higgi, that pan looks great. I need that too

So make us a stock one. We're damned lazy! And, not to mention, I couldn't cut a straight line if I tried. I've started a trend for a threadjack though!

I was thinking of routing my intercooler piping under the a/c and power steering in order to keep them like you did. Did you run the pipes under the plugs or above them.
Isn't the stock under belly plastic thing supposed to route the air over the oil cooler and radiator the same was Higgi's pan does?

The stock underpan helps, but there are still many gaps for air to escape.
What the patented hIGGIduct does, is encase the whole setup so that air cannot go around it and has to go through all the heat exchangers.
