FMIC installation

Hi,
I'm currently installing my FMIC. I have search to see pics of some installation. I found this thread which has great pics: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hlight=install

I noticed that with the greddy intercooler kit you have to remove the bumper reinforcement. Doing this gives a lot of free space to place the IC. My main question: Is it safe and is it legal ? That thing is very massive and it should be very useful in case of accident ??

Thanks for help!

Alex

If you remove the reinforcement, there is nothing there to protect what is behind the structure and that includes your intercooler. It doesn't take a hard bump to do damage.

I don't have enough money for the greddy kit. I'm installing a custom kit.

This is what I think, but everybody seems to remove that.

Just go get the IC off an Isuzu delivery truck, the smaller ones. They fit perfect for the Tii

It's only a 5mph bumper anyway, so just make damn sure you don't hit anything!

Yes, the reinforcement is just the 5mph bumper. Pretty much anything over that is going to cause some serious damage regardless if it's there or not. If you're that worried about it, just fit the intercooler somewhere else

ill tell one thing, most aftermarket bumpers that everyone are putting on now need to have the 5 mph bumpers removed.

Excellent link hugo20.

I feel somewhat better with the absence of the reinforcement. There would require alot of trimming of this reinforcement when I put In my GReddy FMIC that the structural Integrity would be severly sacrificed, so I eliminated It all together.

Yes I bought a core a few months ago on ebay. When the IC will be mounted, I will check to make piping.

Thanks for answers guy! I think I will remove the reinforcement bumper. It's going to be a lot easier to mount.

I have another question. Where do you relocate the windshield washer tank ? Someone has a pics ?
