Flywheel weights on boost

Wanting to hear what peoples experience and impressions are using different weights flywheels and with larger turbos.

Did you rev to quick to spool and so on.

I had an interesting conversation about this years ago with one of the local quick Supra owners down here.
His thinking is unconventional, but he's a drag racer.
He claimed that the lighter flywheel induces more load onto the engine, which in turn causes the turbo to boost more!
This is a good thing, right?
Well, this goes against the regular convention of running a heavy flywheel to get the car to get out-of-the-hole faster...

So, for turbo'd engines, the light flywheel might be a hidden gem!

Thats pretty interesting, id think since the engine/car would accelerate slower(with heavier flywheel) there would be mroe load on the motor causeing the motor to boost more. Now im even gladder (i know its not a word) i got alightweight flywheel!

I know not meany people run the aluminum flywheels compared to the steel. Is there any reson to not run the lighter aluminum flywheel?

I'm running an ACT Streetlie flywheel (Approx 12 lbs) with a TO4S. I put both these mods on at the same time though, so I havn't had anything to compare it to. I must say though, when I finished the install, the turbo was boosting quicker than I imagined it to before the test run.

i know someone with an FD, big turbo and light flywheel...he cant make full boost in 1st gear because it doesn't stay in gear long enough to build boost.

so yes..i think it detracts somewhat.

A lot of people can't make full boost in 1st gear, partly becaue of how little load there is. I don't think that the flywheel will do much to 'when' it enters boost, I think a heavier would be a little more likely to help spool, since it takes more energy to spin it, but then it doesn't feel as fast because it's a drag to spin. Who knows!
