Question flywheel nut torqued well enough?

i dont have a torque wrench capable of the 290-330 ft lbs. so i used my brothers tool that mazdatrix sells. that long thing with the socket welded at the end. i weight bout 130 lbs and i went on the very end of it (its about 2 1/2ft i think) and jumped on it a few times till i couldnt get it to move anymore.

Probably so. You should have also used Locktite on the threads when you put the nut on.

huh? 2-1/2 feet times 130lbs = 325ft/lbs. Sounds good to me...i know he jumped on it but he should be able to jump on it again to get it off. +1 on locktite.

It's probably fine. The exact torque isn't important, just as long as it's enough to press the flywheel onto the taper.

There should be no problem removing it later. Just use an impact gun.

Yes, even the FSM suggest using that on the nut/threads. Or the equiv. If you don't use it...........I don't know. Might have no problem at all without it. Your supposed to use it on the front pulley bolt also.

I don't think I used locktite.. my torque wrench goes to 250lbs so I got it clicked then I gave it a little pull

so far so good there.

as i see it, there is no reason NOT to use it. it wont hurt, the FSM suggests it and it takes no effort to do, so why not? i know it may make it harder to get off in the future but the extra effort to remove it is worth the peace of mind IMO.

I MIGHT have installed that nut on a engine sometime in the past without locktite/thread locker/whatever. As a general rule I use the locktite from Pepboys. It's a bit of insurance against vibrations etc. I'd say your nut probably won't come off. Sue me if it does.

The other thing is that the motor turns such that you couldn't spin the nut off by producing too much power.

Yeah, and I have never found a bolt I couldn't remove or break well enough to remove with my 1/2" drive pneumatic impact wrench. Works every time! He should be able to get it back off.
