Angry Flywheel issue

so for the past few months i have been going into autozone and swapping out starters every couple weeks. me and many of my buddies thought the starter gear was getting hung up on the flywheel. it happened very randomly driving around the flywheel/starter would make noise or when i go to start it it sounded like the starter was just spinning then would randomly grab.. ANYWHO, in the middle of swapping my motor and trans into a new shell, i found what is pictured below. Just curious if this has happened to anyone else and what may have caused this? also, clutch and flywheel was all stock and i have yet to drive this car hard.

Welds broke on the starter ring. Got my first car when I was 16 for $100 , 197X Mustang II. It had the same problem.

Pulled the trany and my dad welded the ring back on. Never a problem after that.

Got my first speeding ticket a few days later comming home from my drivers test

Find a used flywheel, Im sure somone in your area has one cheap. Ive got 7 on a shelf in the basement.

well i have a turbo tranny, starter, flywheel, driveshaft, lsd, and half shafts. i wanted to save up for a lightweight flywheel and clutch but im just gonna buy the clutch now and worry about the flywheel later.. kinda pissed ill be car-less for a few days but at least i have the motivation to do the TII drivetrain swap!

Would not cost much to take is some place and have them weld it on. One of the lightweight fw's actually require you to move the ring from your old one to the new flyweel. I cant remember which one but I know one of them did.

Good luck
