flywheel installation.

when we removed the flywheel from my motor it was a real ****** to hold it still. i was wondering if it would be possilbe to stick a ratchet on teh from e shaft bolt to hold everything still while torquing down the flywheel nut. or would this end up being bad?

Get a piece of Linked Chain and throw a bolt through a link in the chain and attach it at one of the pressure plate bolts. Then put a Big bolt through one of the bolt holes at the back of the engine.Move the Flywheel enough so that it takes up slack.then Blast away with a Impact.
This method works good in Reverse too,to take the flywheel OFF.(I use a 42 inch breaker bar and a 2-1/8 socket).

mazdatrix sells a part that bolts into one of the tranny mounting holes, and it has teeth to hold the flywheel steady while you put it back on, or take it off for that matter.
http://mazdatrix.com/ftools.htm they call it the flywheel stopper. there at two different ones, for turbo/na models.good luck

Don't use a socket on the front bolt to hold the e-shaft - you'll over-torque it.

Get yourself a big long piece of angle iron. Drill two holes that mate up with the clutch mount holes. Push the engine stand up against the wall and use the wall to hold the angle iron from turning and you can put all your weight into the torque wrench.
