On the fly computer diag.
How would I set up my car for onboard diagnostics? I got a laptop and I want to plug it into the ECU so I can record everything that is happening with the car during a race. Im not sure what software I need, where to plug an interface to the car and the computer to, I also want to know what I would be able to read with this set up(rpm, o2, air flow?) among other things that I cant think of now. Open to all comments, suggestions, questions.
Since the 2nd gen RX-7s are non OBDII, there's not much hope. If you go with a standalone EFI system like a Haltech, Motec, etc. then you can use a laptop for real time data.
If you're a programmer/electronics designer with plenty of spare time it can be done, but why waste all the energy on a stock system?

Your probally right. I just like to screw around with stuff, Im putting a computer in the car to run 4 webcams so I figue why not try to kick it in the ***** and get as much stuff running on it at once.
Take a look in the 2nd gen archives.

This ECU test connector is basically just tapped into each sensor wire. THen you just compair voltages with that said in the service manual.
I made one of these for my car. It would also be a good idea to disect and examine the ecu since you will have it out anyways.
