Flushing out the coolant - install new t-stat

OK well Im going to be flusing my coolant system and installing a new t-stat here within the next few days and I have a few questions. I did some searching on here and found some information. But here is what I need to know:

I bought some coolant flush chemical at the local auto parts dealer: will this be safe?

The coolant flush chemical says to pour it in, fill with water and run the engine for 10 mine, then empty, fill with water and run for 10 minutes again. Then fill back up with coolant. *will the rotary be ok just running with water for that time?

When I fill the system back up: what is the necessary mixture of coolant and water?

These may be quasi-newb questions, but frankly when it comes to this coolant system stuff I am. So I want to make sure Im doing this correctly.

Oh yes and I also ordered a new T-stat from mazda trix, I assume that wont be too complicated to install, and I was going to order a new radiator cap but im confused between the flat caps and the pressurized caps? which one do I need?

Thanks

Jake

1- Yes
2- It will be ok to run the car for a while with just water.
3- 50/50 is the best mix of water to coolant in my opinion.
4- Get a 13psi pressurized cap.

The reson they tell you to run it for 10min is to allow it to heat up and open thermostat so you can actualy flow water in the egin. The way I do it is I remove the TS and the do the cleaning this makes it flow immediatly. Yes it will be fine on water. The issue with water is when it gets to hot it turns to steam and steam does not cool nor flow. A word to the wise bench test your new TS in a pot of boiling water on your stove and see if it opens up proeprly and all. My luck lately has ben about 1 good TS in 6 so to becarefull and not stick it in and say its good and over heat your engin, blowing a coolant seal not good.
