fluid leak onto the cat

Pretty much my car started smoking last Friday or so after getting a new clutch in, took it back there a few days later, they the cat area down, but couldn't find any imminent leaks, so been driving somewhat ok, without much visible smoking, still bit of this annoying smell though. However pretty sure it did smoke again today. Smells a little like syrupy I guess, just sort of makes you want to throw up if you ever smell it again. So my coolant reservoir hasn't decreased any, and pretty sure most of the fluids that I can check in the engine bay hasn't gone anywhere, and the car isn't leaking any fluids onto the ground. So what else could leak onto the cat? Last time I went back they checked the transmission still had fluids, might go back there in a few days to check again, aside from that, I'm not quite sure what could be leaking.

Though there is a possibility that there might just be a leak in the welding between the header and the cat, but that would be a bigger problem wouldn't it?

You are burning coolent. Only coolent has the sicking sweet smell. Try driving it to operating temp open the hood and rev the motor a little. I have a feeling that one of the heater hose might be leaking. Good luck!! Oh yeah if it is the heater hose just buy a new one and cut the old hose off since the heater core hose fitting is pretty soft.

what it 'Could Be" is if the shop dripped Trans Gear oil onto the top of your Cat ..it smells like ****.another thing to check would be To Pop the Shifter surround Off and see if they Sealed the top Up around there..I Sometimes get a "smell of Gear oil' when My aftermarket shifter loosens up abit, due to Shifter bushing wear..(I'm Thinkin Gear Oil because You had your Clutch Replaced)Any how That's My take on it ..Best of Luck.
