Depends on the driver. A couple locals here have barely modded evo's running consistant 12.0's on stock tires.

I have a Galant VR4 with an EVO III RS motor 16g and some supporting fuel mods... (Daily driver) I drive around town at stock boost levels.. I have had a couple RX7's come up next to me and look at me funny and want to go on the highway. I took 2 N/A's and a 89+ Turbo II but I had to turn the boost up for the TII. Exactly as others have said, from a stop I would dominate even the Turbo II, but highway speeds I needed about 18PSI or more to pull a car length on it. I know he had some mods though as it was a GTUs shell with a FMIC and throwing flames as we were going... so how modded I won't know of course... but I was also full of vacation/camping gear from vacation heh.

Now on the otherside, I have a 88 Turbo II and I have pulled on many WRX's and was pretty close with an STI. I didn't beat it but I was only a car length behind. Then there was this Modded EVO floating around town one night and well... I don't want to describe how baldy I was crying haha.

If your going against a stock setup then you have decent chances at highway speeds... but from a stop I hope you have a nice clutch to launch with... You will need it. Of course driver skill always is a big factor too.

Best of luck.

If you could see that he was throwing flames as you were "going", sounds like you were losing.

Or, I was watching him take off a couple times as he is the one who wanted to go first.. Me on my way home from vacation was just admiring a nicely done Turbo II. I like to make sure im not "going" with someone who's going to end up crashing into me or someone else. Its not worth risking anyones lives over. Besides, I know my Turbo II if im in 5th for any length of time above 60 my EGT's are close to 1300f plenty enough to throw a flame on a downshift.

As I said, I couldn't beat him without higher boost levels but as this is an RX-7 forum I don't expect you to think the 7 can lose. I am in the same boat when I am in the Turbo II. On top of that I plan on selling the Galant and get an FD to go with the FC somepoint in the near future. Not to start a hissy fit, but I responded so you have some more details.

I was more so just posting in the thread to give some insite to both sides of the car vs car since I pretty much have both.

Unless the EVO owner is like most and hasn't figured out how to keep from either frying the stock clutch or bogging out off the line. EVO VIIIs are surprisingly tough to launch, although when you get it right, they are very quick.

lol you guys are funny just because the evo is awd doesn't mean ****, if its a stock evo you will walk all over his face from a start or a roll, my roomate rolls them up all day in a 200hp 240sx w/o LSD i really don't see why you are so worried about a gay *** evo.. They run what a 13.7 stock.. You should embaress him hands down they are nothing exspecially stock......

and what part about an evo is hard to launch??? you rev that ****** up to 5g's and side step the clutch..... its awd its not gonna spin.. its gonna go

I dont know what the hell youre talking about.. I have 2 friends with Evos and they will lauch their asses off. They both raced a highly modded camaro with drag radials and pulled him a slight bit out of the hole. Also you cant just launch it or it like normal of it will bog down. Im not sure how to launch one as Ive never had the chance but they say that there is a certain way to do it.

a 200 HP car can beat a 300 HP at the drag strip? That doesn't really make sense to me...

IF you can drive...you have a realistic chance. If he bogs the launch you'll own him.

when i get the bigger IC and bigger exhaust(cure lag) i wont be so timid but after watching cars at the track i know im no small fry now....honda you know damn well that with few mods those cars can be made fast as hell..... quit trying to be an ***....they are formidable opponents.. oh and being i havent been on the dyno EVER i have never really know what my car makes....its not lack of faith its ignorance in power available..enough explaining myself to jerks... (but then again hence the title "FLAME ON")

there are many factors to that statement.....

1. what is the weight difference between the cars???.... horsepower is nothing if the car is heavy..power to weight ratio is everything

2. what is the torque difference???...... just because you have alot of horsepower doesnt always mean you have alot of torque... and both horsepower AND torque play a big role in drag racing

3. how skilled are the drivers?? a skilled driver in a 200hp car will beat a novice driver w/ a 300hp car

4.in the case of a evo vs. an rx..... tires play a big factor....if your at a track w/ vht laid out, and the fc has drag radials...then the launches will be similar... and since the evo is heavier, the fc should be able to stay pretty close....

5. the powertrain loss comparison.... the evo may have 300hp AT THE FLYWHEEL, but its got a long way to go from there... id say you lose probubly 40-50 hp to get that power to the wheels, so we are actually "only" talking about 250-260whp... and ive seen some new evos dyno at less than 250

so, yes...it is possible for a 200hp car to beat a 300hp car at the track
