fixing my fuel problem....

hey everybody i have a 1990 gxl and i would not get power on and off to the pump i thought my pump was going bad so i replaced it because it was already new and had a warrinty and that wasn't the problem then i got tired and sick of spending money so i hooked my fuel pump to a swich from direct power from the battey and it ran at first it ran horrible like i was running rich or lean 1 of the 2 and i just kept driving it like that then i had an idol problem because it wouldn't idol the i found out that my fuel rail was loose and tightened it up then it drove fine .... i then bought a air/fuel gauge and hooked it up then it read perfect ..when i got on it it ran fine and had the perfect amount of fuel but my main problem is my fuel gauge isn't working .......how can i find out a way to find out how much fuel i have with saving money...any 1 ??????????
