Have you checked to see if the nuts holding it on are still tight?

How does this helper of yours know it's burning too much gas and is running hot? What does the temp gauge say? More info please.

The temp gause is normal i think...near the middle of the gauge?

He said its realli hot compared to the other mufflers he worked on(we did it at his muffler shop)
and then said its burning too much gas , i think he said that because of my muffler letting out a lot of air...like, u can feel it pushing your foot back when u but your foot near the tip of the exaust

well rotaries have hotter exhaust temps than piston engines, atleast thats what ive read. maybe the flanges are slighty bent or not flat, maybe the gaskets your using are cheap fiberglass filled screen style ones. See if you can get copper gaskets, and check the flanges with a straight edge.

rotaries do burn more fuel than a comparable piston engine and they flow like a mother also.

that is why you can feel the exhaust when you stand behind a rotary car...any of them

Rotaries tend to have higher exhaust temps than piston engines. Unless you saw him actually measuring any temps, as opposed to just burning his hand on the muffler, I wouldn't worry about it.

What a load of BS. Don't worry about it; it sounds like this guy knows nothing...

Here's an easy way to locate exhaust leaks. Put the car up on stands and slide underneath. With the engine idling have a mate hold a thick rag over the exhaust tip (or two rags over both tips if you still have dual mufflers). This will force a lot more exhaust though the leak, making it much louder and easier to locate.
