"fixed" my coolant seal leak!

Yes, I "fixed" the leak. Starting about five months back I noticed an issue where every once in a while when I started my RX-7 only one rotor would catch, but if i rev'd the engine the other rotor would sputter then it would start running right. Well, after several months the problem started getting worse and just recently it was so bad I had to crank it while giving it gas to get one rotor to catch, then the other would catch after a minute and a huge plume of sweet smoke would come out the tailpipe. Well, I had enough. I'm not quite ready to buy a new car, and I already nixed the idea of getting a rebuild so I decided to try some Bar's Stop Leak. I poured the entire bottle in the radiator when it was cooled off, drove around for 35 minutes, got gas, and when I tried to start the engine it fired right up. No more embarassing white plume, barely starting BS. This was last night - this morning, it fired right up and i'm hoping it will work for at least another two months until i'm ready to get a new truck.

I was going to try the Bar's Copper Block Weld, but since I didn't have the time to flush the radiator and let it sit for a day to dry I gave this a shot and it worked!

Has anyone else tried this stuff?

thats kind of funny really... i wouldn't have thought of that... hopefully it works for u, but i'd still be skeptical of it... my 87 TII before i wrecked it was constantly pouring sweet white smoke out the tail pipe... the car ran like a top, not a single problem with it, it just drank antifreeze lol

I had a leak in chamber 1.
I used the brown powder Bars leak.
It's probably not the best, bt it was available.
I called it pixie dust.
It ran for months with no more problems.

how many months did it work for? Were you able to put more in and get more time out of it? I'm curious....

I have used it too. This fix only last about a week and the leak slowly returns.

I did the Block weld last January and it did very well. I have very little problems with the cooling system now. I still get air in the cooling system only when I take it up to 7000 to redline. So i keep my revs below 6000.

I may have to do it again soon but it only takes a day to do it.

OK, just an update...

Two days after used the stop leak I noticed that I now have bubbles in my coolant overflow AND have to consistently refill the radiator. I never had this problem before, but unlike before it starts right up every time. Weird, eh? I think i'm going to try some copper block weld and pray for the best.

BTW, i'm trying to sell this car, so if you're in the Austin, TX area and want a shell...

Agh! Many rx7s back I also used barrs stop leak - and later (1 month - did a short block tear down - Basically - this is bad news for any ofthe smaller cooling ports in the engine - I highly recommend not using this - Getting ready to rebuild an engine today and try to fix an rpm hunt - good luck guys. I used the stuff rotaryresurrection reccomends, I wouldn't do it again, my car ran fine for a few days then was back to the usual boiling over.
On engine teardown I found big slushy slugs of that stuff all over the place, hopefully my radiator is ok

If you do the procedure wrong it can cause damage and clog your cooling system as well as your radiator. If you do it right as the instructions say, it will be a temporary fix till the rebuild, although it may cause problems for the rebuild. Just my .02 cents
