five speed conversion or motor swap?

So i have a 1986 GXL with an auto tranny and i want a five speed. I found a car with a five speed and i don't know know what will be easier; to do a 5 speed conversion or or motor swap. any sugestions? the car with the auto tranny also has a lot of aftermarket parts i would also have to swap ove if i do a motor swap.

what would you be motor swaping too... chances are your going to have to change the tranny if its not a NA 13B anyway.

my 86' GXL is N/A it has a auto tranny i will be buying a 86' GXL with a 5 speed that is also N/A but has a blown motor i don't know what will be the easier of the two. To swap a motor into the five speed car. Or doing a 5 speed conversion to my Auto Tranny car.

It will be easier to swap the running engine into the 5 spd car than to swap all the parts from the 5 spd into your auto car.

well........thats more of an engine replacement than a swap.

But you're missing alot of details if you want to know what will be the best in the end.

1: Which car is in the best shape? If you are going to swap in your running motor to the 5spd car, are you swapping it into a beat up old shell?

2: What are all the aftermarket parts you have on the Auto GXL that you think wil make the engine replacement a real pain? Exhaust? intake?

3: If you are considering putting the running engine into this 5spd car that, if Im correct - you've yet to purchase, be sure to factor in that you'll have to buy it, change ownership, get or transfer plates, get or transfer insurance, certify it etc etc........all that makes a formidible amount of work on its own.

IMHO the "easiest" thing to do is put the damn 5 spd in. There are tonnes of writeups around...but once you answer a few of the key questions the easier answer (for you) will be clear.
