Fitting a Fd gear box to a FC T2?

Hello all,

I am thinking of fitting a Fd gear box to my Fc?

I know the Clutchs are diffrent types Push and pull etc but if i swaped the Flywheel,Clutch and Box would it work or do i need some other bits?

Thanks......Chris

TII boxes are reportedly stronger. Why would you want to go to a weaker gearbox?

Actually, the TII and FD gearbox, internally, are about identical.

There's no good reason to swap in an FD gearbox - not only do you have a completely different clutch design, but there's no equivalent to a tranny mount as the rear of the tranny connects to the diff via the power plant frame.

If you got a free FD tranny or something, sell it to an FD owner and use the money to buy a TII tranny.

exactly, they use the same cogs inside, the main weakness of the FD trans is the clutch set up on them.

series 5 T2 box is all ya need, failing that get a V160 Getrag Supra 6 cogger addaptered up for it

fd box in fc

I have done a manual conversion in my s4 using a s6 gearbox, the box itself isn't that good (whirring in 4th and a little bit in 5th) and grinds when you slam it into 2nd when going hard . I had no speedo for some time as they are setup for a digital speedo, although yesterday I chopped up an fc on and used the fd cog and got it going.

The only other bad thing is the pull type clutch, they are not as cheap to replace as a push type (especially when your only 16 and can barley afford gas lol). And even the push type conversions are $400NZD+ 2nd hand

My main reason for choosing a s6 box was because they were built to handle a 280hp twin turbo car so i thaught it would give me one less thing to worry about when upgrading performance wise. I'm now wanting a s5 gearbox lol as they seem to be better for someone like myself
