Fitting a 89+ driveshaft into a 88??

The drive shaft snaped on my car and the only ones at junk yards I can find are 89+ cars.
I have a 88 5spd NA.

Could a 89+ drive shaft be used in place of the origonal?
THanks

There are differences in the early S4 and the late S4/S5 manual N/A driveshafts, but they all bolt in and work.
