First time at the track with my new Rex.
The base RX-7 actually impressed me. I ran a best time of 16.350 @ 85.38 mph. This is also in Tucson, relatively high altitudes. The only mods I have done to the car so far is cone filter and Catco cats and downpipe. I will take it down to Phoenix some day-- I will probably run 15s! Cool stuff.

hey good job. that would be pretty sweet if you hit 15's. i have a question though. what did you do for the hole shot? and did you peel out before the hole shot so the tires would be warmer?

While staging I avoided the water and did a VERY short dry burnout. Not to get the tires hot, but to get any gravel out of my treads. I've heard that heating up a radial with a burn out will only make any absorbed oils come to the surface of the tread-- thus making it have less traction than when it's cold. For the launch, the first to times I tried to ease it off the line causing it to bogg. Then I tried the "no fear" method and dumped the clutch at 4500 RPM. It broke loose, of course, but when it hooked up at high RPMs, it threw me back in my seat. I'm sure that if I had something wider than 185 tires I could launch even harder.

dumping the car at high rpm
When my 86' GXL was in running order I would dump it at 6K RPM and smoke most cars on the road. We need to keep rpms as high as possible. I broke the diff mount and it isn't really that hard to change. I say drop it at 6K and see what happens. I have 205 /50/15 on mine and it hooks like a mother.
