Well, to start off with, READ THE STICKY FAQ's AT THE TOP OF THIS FORUM! They answer all your questions and probably more that you didn't think of yet.

Oh, yeah, this line gets thrown around alot, so don't take offense. Oh, and, um, welcome to the club...!

Do like Falcoms said. Read. Read and some more reading.

There are 2+2 models, which have an useless back seat. I tried and it's just not possible. I have a 2 seater right now and wouldn't have those tiny seats. A quadripelegic would be able to sit back there but thats about it.

The engines in these cars are very smooth as there are only a few moving parts. They require normal maintenence like any other car that is of the same age. They are NOT tolerent of neglect. Overheating one of these engines usually requires a rebuild. The engine can seem overwhelming at first, but you need to get the FSM and dive in when problems occur. Then you have this (the) forum here to help you out. From My experience, The N/A cars are pretty reliable. There are many little wiring bugs with these cars. They had cold solder joints all over the place.

The insurance depends on many things. Age, gender, location, coverage and driving history. I pay $26.00 per month for an 89 N/A. That's with being 25, married and a clean driving record.

So, What (more specifically are you looking for? S4 N/A, S4 TII, Vert's, S5?

As far as what I'd recommend, a S5 car. They cost a little more but feel more refined than S4 cars. The plastics are of better quality, They have a touch more power, (are a little heavier too) They look a little nicer as well.

If you want the car as a Drift setup You'll need to do some suspension work. Particularly The DTSS eliminators. Do a search on DTSS. I don't feel like explaining the whole thing since the information is on this board.

actually insurance isn't that high since they have an 80ci engine hehe... its also less for a non-turbo and for a non-vert... 86-88 base will be cheapest insurance...
they run excellent if you know how they work and how to tune them, otherwise not so good. an rx7 was my first car and... i was a n00b at the time... but dude, once you realize some stuff, its amazing... and if you get one, there's gonna be plenty of people here that will help you with anything you need help with.

I'm 16 and I have an S5 N/A, and my insurance is $67/month under my parents name, would be like $74/month under my name I think.

Since this will be your first car, I assume it will be your daily driver to skool and such, so I would worry less about making it a drifter and focus on just keeping everything running smooth. Do you have a job? I'm barely getting enough to keep my gas tank filled.

But yeah, my car so far (bought it in March '04) has been pretty reliable. The only times it has not been running were when I willingly took it apart to put in e-ports. In fact its down right now because I'm putting in aux. port sleeves and rods the the dumb previous owner took out when the engine got rebuilt and streetported (found that out while putting in the e-ports a month or so ago).

And yeah, most are only 2-seaters. Which I like, because you have a reason/excuse for not being a taxi for all of your firends.

If you want to talk more, feel free to hit me up on AIM:

yeah, you can hit anyone up on aim with questions most of the time... onwsk8r here...
but yeah, after i got the car i became more worried with keeping gas in the tank... but you don't have to worry about its drifting capabilities and such for a while...

My FC was my second car... and under my mom's name my insurance is like $120.00 a month. But it was the same back when I was driving a 1988 Dodge Caravan.

the slowest second gen 7s are automatics by far,..which is what i have and let me tell you it is still faster than 95% of the hondas out there.if the car you find is stick then its even faster .my insurance (and im 19) is 76$ a month through bristolwest. One problem your going to find out(hopefully not the bad way) is most mechanics dont know how to work on rotaries so you might want to consider learning as much as possible and doing most repairs yourself.Keep up on the regular maintanace and it will last just as long as any other car,!welcome to the club.

For $3-4k, you could get a pretty cheap Series 4 Turbo II. You might be able to pick up one in decent shape for that price, but nothing good. The only Series 5 Rx-7s you will be able to afford are non-turbos. You could drift in a non-turbo, actually you can drift in anything RWD, but it won't be as easy. You will have to rev the engine much more to wag the tail.

Liability. I'm using state farm. It's probably so low because my parents have a nearly flawless driving record, I live in the boonies, I went through Driver's Ed, and State Farm has this thing people our age can do where we fill out a log everytime we drive for awhile and you turn it in and you get $11/month off or something like that, I think.

thats not bad. I was talking to a state farm agent and he said that they had a plan for the teens and it might be that one, he told me to call him for more info. Also i have this card that they gave me in driving school, this one guy came in a gave a speech and gave us a card thats suppose to drop the rate.
